Our World of Good
In 2012, 15 local young men embarked on a photography project – their goal to explore, capture and celebrate their Kings Cross Community. Their community is one that is hidden from the thousands of people – tourists and office workers – who pass daily through the new Kings Cross – London’s latest Cultural Quarter, full of trendy eateries, fast food restaurants and bars.
The photos you will see are of shop keepers, road sweepers, religious leaders, the homeless, youth workers, teachers and many other members of their community.
Behind each of these striking portraits is an often untold story that will never make the media, but captures the everyday experience of belonging to the local community.
Our World of Good is an independently organised INSIDE OUT Action Group, part of a global participatory art project from TED award winning French artist JR. Inside Out is a global platform for people to tell their untold stories and transform messages of personal identity into works of public art. It is a celebration of the vibrant and diverse community we live in and the people that make it what it is.
This project is a collaboration between One KX and South Camden Youth Access Point and is the culmination of two years’ work from the initial project, to securing permissions to mount it on the façade of One KX to the installation itself.
One KX would like to thank; all our young photographers, the models that took part, Camden Council, Central YMCA, The Francis Crick Institute, Tim Daly, Hugo Ferguson, Aaron Klein, Laing O’Rourke, Jake Oliver-Fishman, Mark Sherratt, Sophie Talbot and Nick Terry.
Here’s a a short Stop Motion film of the installation.
