Central YMCA, a registered charity and owner and operator of One KX, has decided to close the centre temporarily, and its resident theatre company YTouring permanently with effect on Friday 5th September 2014.
This difficult decision has been made following Central YMCA’s recent acquisition of the large, independent, national training charity YMCA Training. The take over has resulted in a review of our significant charitable activities and investments and a greatly increased focus on areas of education leading to employment for young people, notably Apprenticeships and foundation learning provision and qualifications. Central YMCA’s current work through One KX for more than eight years and YTouring for 30, while excellent, not longer fits with our core areas of delivery and as a result One KX will be closed for between three and six months, as new provision and activities are developed.
Central YMCA will retain ownership of the building and will reopen it in spring, building on our historic commitment to the community with a financial investment thus far of over £5million. Until then we deeply regret any inconvenience caused to our visitors, customers and friends.
